Hand-Turned Shawl or Hair Pin

from 16.00

Hand-turned from blocks of salvaged wood and finished with a protective, long-lasting wax. Each pin is unique in shape and profile, but they fall into two categories:

  • Light/Domestic are the lighter-shaded woods. Since they're salvaged, I can't always identify the exact species, but they're likely domestic maple, birch, or similar. The current batch of light pins are turned from salvaged letterpress printers' position blocks salvaged from a south side Chicago church, the same as these buttons.
  • Figured/Exotic are the darker-shaded woods, or woods with a highly interesting figure. I can sometimes figure out the species, but often have no idea; they just look interesting and are often more challenging to turn.

Pins vary in exact length, but average about 3.5" long. Ends are gently tapered.
